Are you studying in class 10th or 12th, and do you have a dream of working with airplanes, rockets, or space? If yes, then aerospace engineering can be the right career choice for you. But before you begin this journey, it’s important to know what the eligibility rules are for joining an aerospace engineering course.
Eligibility After 10th
Students who have completed their 10th standard cannot directly take aerospace engineering. But you can prepare for it by choosing the right subjects in 11th and 12th. The most important step is to take the PCM stream (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) in 11th and 12th. These subjects are compulsory to take admission into Aerospace Engineering.
Eligibility After 12th
After finishing 12th, students can apply for a B.Tech/B.E. in Aerospace Engineering if they meet these conditions:
- They have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) in 12th.
- They scored at least 50% to 60% marks (depending on the college/university).
- They appeared for entrance exams like JEE Main, JEE Advanced, or other state/university exams.
- They are medically fit, as good health is important in the aerospace field.
- Some private colleges also take students through their own entrance exams or give direct admission based on 12th marks.
Students from a science (PCM) background only can apply. Without mathematics and physics, admission is not possible.
Diploma Pathway
Students who have completed a diploma in aeronautical, mechanical, or related fields can also take admission into Aerospace Engineering through lateral entry. This allows them to join directly in the second year of B.Tech.
Skills Required
Apart from academic eligibility, students should also have:
- Strong interest in aircraft, space, and technology.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Passion for innovation and research.
- Teamwork and leadership qualities for working on large projects.
- Good communication skills to work in teams and present ideas.
Higher Studies Eligibility
After completing a B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering, students can go for an M.Tech, MS, or Ph.D. in specialized areas like Space Engineering, Avionics, or Propulsion. For this, they have to clear exams like GATE or GRE. For 10th-grade students, the journey starts by choosing PCM in 11th and 12th. For 12th-grade students, scoring well in these subjects and clearing entrance exams will open the path to aerospace engineering. If you dream of airplanes, rockets, or space, meeting these eligibility rules is your first step toward a bright career in aerospace.
