The field of aeronautical engineering is considered to be the most challenging field of engineering. It has better career-building prospects. Under this, new technologies are developed in the field of civil aviation, space research, defense technology, etc.

This field is concerned with designing, manufacturing, developing, testing, operating, and operating parts of commercial and military aircraft as well as the development of spacecraft, satellites, and missiles.

Aeronautical Engineering

Aeronautical engineering includes the techniques of operating aircraft and the study, design, and maintenance of flight-capable machines. Under this course, engineering students and young professionals are given specialized training in the construction, designing, testing, and analysis of commercial or military aircraft, missiles, and spacecraft. Aeronautical engineering also includes propulsion, materials science, avionics, and aerodynamics.

Aeronautical Engineering Eligibility Criteria

To do Aeronautical Engineering, the candidate should have a very strong hold on Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Also, to apply for this course, it is mandatory to have passed 12th class with Physics, Chemistry and Maths subjects.

There are mainly 4 types of Aeronautical Engineering courses in India:-

  • Diploma course of 3 years duration after class 10th and class 12th respectively.
  • BE & B.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering of 4 years duration after class 12th.
  • The postgraduate course of 4 years duration after completion of graduation in Aeronautical Engineering after class 12th Courses include ME and MTech.
  • One can also pursue Ph.D. doctoral degree courses of 2 years duration after completion of ME/M.tech.

Career Opportunities

Aeronautical Engineers can easily find jobs in the Indian Space Research Organization and Ministry of Defense. After doing Bachelors’s in Aeronautical Engineering, one can work with reputed organizations like

National Aeronautical Laboratory, Department of Civil Aviation, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Defense R&D Laboratories with attractive salary packages.

Apart from this, aeronautical engineers can also find jobs in countries like the USA, France, the UK, and Germany. Aeronautical engineers are in high demand at prestigious research centers such as NASA and private companies such as Airbus.

Salary Package

The starting salary of an aeronautical engineer after graduation is considered to be around 20 to 50 lakhs per year, depending on the experience, skill, and organization. The salary package may vary from company to company.

Whereas in the government sector, the salary of a grade-A, grade-B, junior engineer, and assistant engineer of aeronautical engineers is around 20 lakhs to 50 lakhs on the basis of fixed scale in the government sector.

As far as career growth and development is concerned, it is one of the top choices in terms of return on investment in aeronautical engineering. This stream has a stable career, a good package, and better future prospects.
