In India, to become an aircraft maintenance engineer (ame), one must meet the qualifications set by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which is the regulatory body responsible for civil aviation in India.
The minimum educational qualification required to become an ame licence issued by DGCA in a relevant discipline, such as mechanical, electrical, or electronic engineering. After completing the training and passing the required exams, an AME trainee must complete a certain number of years of practical experience in aircraft maintenance, before becoming eligible to apply for an ame license. The DGCA conducts examinations for the issue and renewal of licenses for ames and the candidate must pass it before getting a license.
