The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India issues several categories of aircraft maintenance engineer AME License. These include:
Mechanical Stream: Authorizes the holder to maintain and repair aircraft structures, systems, and components.
Avionics Stream: Authorizes the holder to maintain and repair aircraft electronic systems and components.
Powerplant Stream: Authorizes the holder to maintain and repair aircraft engines.
Radio Navigation and Instrument Stream: Authorizes the holder to maintain and repair aircraft radio navigation and instrument systems.
Composite Stream: Authorizes the holder to maintain and repair aircraft structures, systems, and components that are made of composite materials.
Helicopter Stream: Authorizes the holder to maintain and repair helicopter structures, systems, and components.
Turbine Stream: Authorizes the holder to maintain and repair aircraft turbine engines.
Inspection Authorization (IA): Authorizes the holder to perform annual inspections and sign off on maintenance and repairs performed by others.
The AME license is required for any person who performs maintenance, preventive maintenance, rebuilding, or alteration of aircraft, aircraft engines, propellers, or appliances.
