A Bachelor of Science in Operation Theatre Technology (BSc OTT) is an undergraduate program aimed at training students to orchestrate and manage surgical procedures in operation theatres. The course lasts for 3 to 4 years depending upon the university, country and their structure. Indian universities follow 3 years of theory and courses, and then 6 months to 1 year of internship which sums up to 3 and a half years to 4 years. Yet some institutions offer a full four year program that includes practical training.
The topics taught include Anatomy, Physiology, Surgical Procedures, Anesthesia Technology, and Patient Care Management. The internship period is the most important element, since students get associated with hospitals, clinics, and surgical centers during this stage. BSc OTT graduates may find work as operation theatre technologists, surgical assistants, or anesthetic care practitioners in hospitals, trauma centers and surgical departments.
