Through its steering function the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ensures aviation safety while managing pilot licensing as well as aircraft maintenance engineering (AME) programs throughout India. Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering courses in engineering colleges obtain their authorization from either the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or universities holding recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC). The engineering institutions at Thanjavur and Vadodara and Turbhe do not receive DGCA authorization yet maintain AICTE recognition.
The programs sanctioned by the DGCA focus on pilot training and aircraft maintenance along with air traffic control instead of Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering as B.Tech/B.E. programs. You should check both the official DGCA website and contact colleges about their DGCA certification and aviation regulatory body partnership status.
