Ques: How long does it take to complete an MCA course?

The length of an MCA (Master of Computer Applications) course differs based on the educational pattern adopted by various universities. MCA was a three-year postgraduate course traditionally, available to students who had passed a BSc, BCom, or BA with Mathematics as a subject. But with the introduction of the New Education Policy (NEP) in India, most universities have shortened the course to two years, bringing it in line with other postgraduate courses.

The MCA course is intended to equip students with in-depth understanding of computer applications, software development, and IT management. It covers topics such as data structures, algorithms, database management, networking, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Internships and project work are also undertaken by students to provide them with practical exposure. Depending on the specialisation and institution, students may opt for fields like AI, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or Cloud Computing. The course in general equips students with skills for a career in software development, IT consulting, and research.
