Ques: What does a BSc MLT course involve?

BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), a program to be completed in 3 to 4 years, centers around the science of laboratory diagnostics. It trains students in the analysis of body fluids, tissues and other medical specimens for the purpose of aiding in the detection and treatment of diseases. Subjects in the curriculum for MLT include clinical biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, immunology, and hematology. Students learn about laboratory instruments, medical diagnostics, and quality assurance necessary for medical testing.

BSc MLT students are also required to complete a research project. In addition, experiential education in hospitals or diagnostic centers as a part of internships is mandatory. Students gain experience in sample collection, microscopic inspection, and automated testing. Graduates can become medical laboratory technologists or pathology lab technicians or even research assistants for hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, and biotechnology companies.
