BSc OTT graduates have significant responsibilities during operations, mainly dealing with the maintenance and functionality of the Operation Theatre. They may take on roles such as Operation Theatre Technologists to help surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses during surgical procedures. Anesthesia Technicians who assist in giving anesthesia to the patients and controlling the vitals are other roles, along with Surgical Assistants who ensure that all the instruments are decontaminated and ready to use. Also, they work as Medical Equipment Specialists, servicing and administering the surgical equipment.
Apart from hospitals, there are possibilities in healthcare administration as well as in planning surgical units. Teaching and research positions are also available. Many work in the medical sector with their specialty in surgical instruments either in the sales and servicing of the equipment or in providing training. There are certain positions available with an MSc in OTT or healthcare administration which provide a few specialized positions. From there, it is possible to progress to OT Managers who coordinate all surgical teams and the logistic support of equipment. Multispecialty hospitals are now noticing the lack of OTT professionals, which is quickly becoming a sought out specialty.
