Akasa Air’s CEO Vinay Dube has announced the airline’s plans to significantly expand its workforce, with a goal of hiring nearly 1,000 employees by March 2024. The company aims to increase its total staff strength to over 3,000 as it continues to expand its fleet and routes. In addition to its domestic operations, the airline also plans to start international flights by the end of this year, with the destination still being finalized. The expansion plans reflect Akasa Air’s commitment to growth and its ambition to become a major player in the Indian aviation market.

In an interview with PTI, Dube, the founder and CEO of Akasa Air, said the airline will place a “three-digit aircraft order” by the end of this year.

Akasa Air has already received 19 of the 72 Boeing 737 Max aircraft it ordered, with the 20th to be inducted in April. Once it has 20 planes in its fleet, the airline will be eligible to operate overseas flights. The company plans to add 9 more planes to its fleet in the next financial year, bringing the total to 28. Currently, the airline operates 110 flights daily. Akasa Air’s CEO Vinay Dube has also announced plans to significantly increase the company’s workforce, with a target of over 3,000 employees by the end of the next fiscal year, including 1,100 pilots and flight attendants. These plans reflect Akasa Air’s commitment to growth and its ambition to become a major player in the Indian aviation market.

According to him, hiring is always done in advance.

“We may not have the aircraft today, but we will have to hire for the aircraft that will be there three months down the road. People have to come, and they have to be trained. So, you always hire in advance for the number of aircraft you have deliveries for,” he noted.

According to Akasa Air’s CEO Vinay Dube, the airline has been fortunate to attract good talent despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. The company plans to continue its employee-focused approach to ensure that it continues to attract top talent. The delivery of the remaining 53 Boeing 737 Max aircraft is expected to be completed by early 2027. Although Dube has hinted at a “three-digit aircraft order” in the future, he did not provide any further details. The airline aims to increase its daily flights from 110 to 150 by the end of the summer season and plans to continue its growth sustainably, focusing on making customers and employees happy. To achieve this, the company is focusing on its cost structure as one of the three key pillars for sustainable growth.

Akasa Air, which describes itself as the country’s newest and most dependable airline, started operations on August 7, 2022.

“I am extremely happy,” Dube said about the achievement of the airline, which currently operates 110 daily flights to 17 domestic destinations.

In February, Akasa Air flew 3.61 lakh passengers, and its domestic market share stood at 3 percent, while On-Time Performance (OTP) was 87 per cent, as per the latest official data. source
